A Fusion of Spirituality, Culture, and Adventure: Spiritual Camps: St. Mary's Pokhara Students of Grades 8, 9, and 10 from the JPIC Club participated in an exciting spiritual camp from December 14-15, 2024, exploring the scenic beauty of Dhampus, Pothana, and the Australian Base Camp (ABC), located in the Annapurna region of western Nepal. With 39 students and 4 teachers, the journey began with music and enthusiasm as the group ascended the hilly roads to Dhampus, a quaint village near the city of Pokhara. Upon reaching Dhampus, the group hiked to Pothana, a picturesque stop offering spectacular views of the Annapurna mountain range. The evening was filled with warmth and camaraderie as the participants gathered for a lively bonfire, complete with singing, dancing, and a delicious barbecue. The following morning began with an early sunrise trek to a breathtaking viewpoint, followed by a peaceful meditation session amidst nature's tranquility. The group continued their hike to the Australian Base Camp, a popular trekking destination known for its panoramic vistas of the Himalayas. After capturing countless memories and enjoying a cup of tea with scenic views, the group descended to Dhampus, collecting souvenirs along the way. The camp ended with a return to school, leaving the students with unforgettable memories, a sense of spiritual renewal, and a deeper connection to nature. The FMW students' unit, in collaboration with the LTS Club, organized a two-day spiritual camp to Bandipur, a historic hilltop town in the Tanahun district of western Nepal. This camp beautifully blended adventure, cultural exploration, and spiritual growth. The journey began with high spirits as students and teachers danced and sang on the bus, setting the mood for the adventure ahead. Upon arrival, the serene and green surroundings of Bandipur captivated everyone. The group kicked off their visit with a thrilling cable car ride, which offered stunning aerial views of the surrounding hills and valleys.The next morning, participants attended a meditation session at the Brahma Kumari Center, where they practiced mindfulness and experienced inner peace. The session fostered positivity and a sense of tranquility. Later, the group embarked on a scenic hike to explore the natural beauty of the region, with panoramic views of the Annapurna Range providing a stunning backdrop. The students also admired Bandipur's well-preserved Newari architecture, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Nepal. This trip left participants with a deeper appreciation for Nepal's history and natural beauty while fostering lasting memories of adventure and connection. The Environment Club organized a unique one-night trip to Sirubari, a model homestay village located in the Syanja district of western Nepal. Known as Nepal's first model homestay village, Sirubari exemplifies community-based tourism and cultural preservation. The journey from Pokhara to Sirubari was a scenic delight, with mesmerizing views of rolling hills, meandering rivers, and snow-capped peaks. Upon arrival, the group was warmly welcomed by the villagers with traditional panchavadya music and garlands, showcasing Nepalese hospitality at its best. In the evening, students and teachers enjoyed a barbecue under the stars, followed by a traditional Nepali meal and vibrant cultural performances, including folk dances and songs that celebrated the local heritage. The next morning, the group woke to the soothing sounds of Buddhist melodies echoing across the village. They explored the terraced fields, trekked to a nearby viewpoint offering stunning vistas, and spent a peaceful hour meditating amidst nature's serenity. This experience allowed participants to immerse themselves in Nepalese culture, connect with nature, and appreciate the simple yet enriching lifestyle of the Sirubari community. -Sr. Jessy Puliyanthuruthel
