Safeguarding Workshop: Protecting the Vulnerable
“Safeguarding is more than rules; it’s creating spaces where every person feels safe, valued, and protected.”
From 28th February to 5th March 2026, with a day of break on 3rd March, the Nepal Region hosted an inspiring Safeguarding Workshop at Don Bosco, Techo, led by Fr. Ravi Sagar SJ from the Kohima Province. He is an advocate on record at the Supreme Court of India, and head of the centre for Human Rights &Law at the Indian Institute, New Delhi. All members, around 35 in total, participated in two batches: the first from 28th February to 2nd March, and the second from 4th to 5th March. Participants reflected, shared, and learned how to create safe and protective environments for minors and vulnerable adults.
Through personal stories, group discussions, and interactive sessions, participants explored the true meaning of safeguarding, protecting others from harm with care, ethics, and respect. Fr. Ravi highlighted the distinction between safeguarding and religious discipline, emphasizing that safeguarding is rooted in human dignity, Scripture, and international human rights.
The workshop also introduced Digital Citizenship, guiding participants on responsible and ethical use of technology, online safety, and maintaining digital hygiene. Discussions on the Nepal Region Safeguarding Policy 2025 and best practices from regional and diocesan policies ensured clarity on real-life application and preventive measures.
The sessions concluded with group exercises to identify safeguarding challenges and practical solutions, equipping everyone with the knowledge and confidence to protect the vulnerable in their communities.
These workshops mark a significant step in fostering a culture of safety, care, and responsibility across the Nepal Region.
